We were so happy to be all together in this fantastic house in a fantastic location. We saw a manatee near the dock the very first day- we loved looking for manatees and fish from the dock everyday. We used the upstairs for those of us that wanted a little quiet, but the majority of the time we were downstairs cooking, eating, swimming or playing tennis. We used the pool everyday for most of the day - warm and clean. We had everything we needed to make meals for everyone with 2 kitchens (although we mostly used the downstairs to cook and eat). The kitchen was big enough for 3 women to work at the same at the same time. We were happy for the dishwasher with so many people (8 adults and 2 kids). My brother, who lives in Florida, brought his fishing boat and gave boat rides and fishing trips. Views on the water were beautiful and the property so private. We had friends staying at a nearby hotel and they had quite a bit of wind and we did not. We did a day trip to Key West (about an hour away)and had a great lunch at a resort on Islamarada. Gary and the owner were very prompt in responding to any questions, needs or concerns that we had. Overall, it was perfect for 3 generations of our family to celebrate my Mom's 95th birthday- we would definitely stay there again!
We really enjoyed our stay in the villa Sombrero home. We where amazed how beautiful it looked and the condition it was in post Hurricane Erma. I have to admit we where a little skeptical about selecting this home because of the hurricane but where pleasantly surprised to see how nice of shape and cleanness the home was in.
There was only a phew hick ups in the home itself but nothing that would discourage us from wanting to return. The ice machine down stairs acted up and just leaked water into the tray and froze as a solid block. No biggie because we just went and got bags of ice to fix that mishap. The gas grill's tank was out, so we bought a refill, but when we connected the new tank up the gas wasn't firing properly through the cylinders to get hot enough to cook on. The guys said it just may need a little tinkering with and it should be functioning properly again. Other than that the stay was pleasant, and we all really enjoyed ourselves.
My 2 year old daughter got a kick out of the manatees that came by close to sunset to get a sip of fresh water, almost every evening we where there, and she just loved being in the pool. She also enjoyed seeing the agwanna lizard's stroll along the tennis court in the early mornings. Mark got to rent a fishing boat and docked it right there at the house, he really enjoyed that convenience.
The house worked well for all of us, and we appreciate the owners kindness and gratitude for allowing us to stay there. Thank you for everything!!
We had 6 adults and 6 kids stay at this home for spring break and the set up was perfect! Everyone had privacy of a room and yet we were close enough to cook and eat together without any problems. The lower level has a great open floor plan, easy in and out to the pool. The pool was AWESOME! Perfect temperature for the mom's to even slide into when they needed a break from the sun. When the kids weren't in the pool, they were catching fish off the dock or playing tennis. We had manatee float up to the seawall daily and the kids loved it! (We all did!) Hammock was used daily, loungers around the pool were good, patio area, semi-beach and dock were all great! Downstairs kitchen had everything we needed! Would definitely go back here and recommend it for families!!
This place is great! We would definitely consider staying there again!
Some feedback and improvement ideas.
We absolutely loved heated swimming pool. Fishing off the dock was awesome. We even saw some manatees! We enjoyed playing tennis, but there could be light so we could play after sunset.
On the first floor there is no dishwasher in the kitchen. There is no big dining table either. These two things were inconvenient for us since we liked to eat together with the whole family. The existing glass round table is unbound and dangerous with the kids.
Villa Sombrero has topped the charts for a vacation rental as far as I'm concerned. My husband and I along with 2 other couples went to marathon to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday. We had a great time even though the weather wasn't in our favor. We made the best of it. We fished every single day off of the seawall on the property and caught enough fish for a fish fry for 6. We made use of the pool whenever we could which was very clean and very relaxing. Both upstairs and downstairs units were very clean upon arrival and both were supplied with everything we needed. We grilled outside every night and listened to the outside stereo which was very nice. We brought our 20 ft boat and docked it right at the house which was really convenient. The property manager Gary was always very quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had. Made a trip to key west and had a good time even though it rained all day. Would definitely recommend this property to anyone we know that might be taking a trip to the keys. We can't wait to go back again.
Had a great stay. The owner and manager both really nice and very helpful. Like the idea of the cut in to keep your boat. Caught plenty of fish right off the dock. The place was super clean when we arrived. I would stay here again.
Our family has been staying at this home every September for the past several years and we love it! The seawall is a magnificant place to watch the colorful sunsets; not to mention the great igauna and manatee watching that goes on there! We do a lot of fishing off the seawall too. The fish cleaning table is handy when we unload from our boat that is docked off the seawall. The pool is a fun place to keep cool and watch all the boat traffic - the lobster and fishing boats returning for the day. The house has a perfect layout and is very comfortable. It is conviently located near grocery and souvenir shopping. I would recommend it for families of all ages! We can't wait for next year!!
